Our Rejected Ideas

Our Rejected Ideas

The first time we met we came up with a numerous amount of songs we liked that we wanted to do things with or music video ideas we wanted to work with but for a variety of different reasons the ideas had to be scrapped.
One of our ideas was to use the song 'Naive' by The Kooks as it is a well-known song but is still quite old and not as popular as it used to be. It also has a very catchy beat and an alternative sound which we wanted to work with.

However we were told by Jason, our teacher, that the song was too well-known and would be too hard to do anything with.
So with this in mind we went back to the drawing board and thought of making a music video with an underlying meaning. Lydia then suggested the song 'Everybody' by Ingrid Michaelson as it is a song that encompasses love and equality and rights for everybody. We took this theme and thought we could base it around rights for everyone no matter their sexuality, race, age, ethnicity etc. We were going to have it through the point of view of one of the main characters and see them, through their eyes, with their boyfriend, holding hands walking down the street and doing everyday activities allowing the target audience to think they are just a normal couple. It is then revealed at the end that they are a homosexual couple, showing how everyone is the same and shouldn't be treated any differently. We were considering putting protestors in the corner of one of the shots to show how people can be hateful instead of accepting.
However this idea was rejected as we decided we wanted to do an older song instead of a more modern song and we thought the idea would be turned down in a presentation to Luke.
We then decided to take a quirkier route and we researched into the song 'Royals' by Lorde. The song has a catchy beat and we were thinking to do a video in reverse. One of the ideas we came up with was using a girl with heavy make-up and wacky clothing, almost like Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga, as can be seen below, wears very abstract make up and clothing. We were hoping to use this style and have the girl putting the make up and outfit on, but play it on reverse so as the song goes on she is instead taking it off. At the end of the video we wanted the idea that it is just a normal girl and the disguise she wore was to hide her real self and show everyone the cover because she is vulnerable.
However we rejected this idea because it is similar to the official video and we thought we could come up with a better idea.
