What is a Convention?

The term convention in media refers to the way of doing something. Conventions can be genre specific and this has to do with content, style and form. 

There are two types of conventions:

• Technical Conventions- A convention in a technical area. This applies to the majority of music videos as they are approximately 3-4 minutes long and have a variety of fast and slow cuts. 
• Genre Conventions- This is where conventions are associated with a particular genre. This can also be found in music videos as it is often found that in pop videos the artist will be singing, a popular convention.
