A High Concept Film of My Choice

A High Concept Film of my Choice.

The high concept film I chose is Titanic. This is because it fits perfectly into the high concept movie category, it has two award-winning well-known lead actors, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio with a classic romance storyline with the two lead actors from completely different backgrounds, almost like Romeo and Juliet, falling deeply in love. There is also an element of good vs. evil between Rose (Kate Winslet) and her cruel demanding fiancé (Billy Zane). The story is very well-known and will therefore attract an audience and a wide range of people. We find out in the very beginning that she survives so true mystery throughout the movie is to whether he survives and, if so, at what cost? The CGI/Special Effects are incredible with the boat splitting in half and sinking, however the boat itself was not CGI and was actually a enormous boat in a giant tank. But the views off of the boat and  up at the sky were CGI and are incredibly realistic. The director is James Cameron, an award-winning director, film producer, deep-sea explorer, screenwriter, visual artist and editor, who has been known for his movies since he directed 'The Terminator' in 1984 and other amazing movies, such as, Alien (1986) and Avatar (2009). The Budget for Titanic was $200,000,000 and on it's opening weekend in America it made $28,638,131 and in England it made £4,805,270 on it's opening weekend. The total gross in America was $600,779,824 and the total in England was £68,532,746. The biggest group of users on IMDB who saw Titanic were males aged 18-29 with a total of 140330. Celine Dion sings the title track of 'My Heart Will Go On' which is featured in the film and was one of the best-selling singles in history, selling more than 15 million copies worldwide. The song broke the record for the largest radio audience ever, gathering 117 million listeners in February 1998. "My Heart Will Go On" won the 1997 Academy Award for Best Original Song. It dominated the Grammy Awards of 1999, winning Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television. "My Heart Will Go On" won also the Golden Globe Award for "Best Original Song-Motion Picture" in 1998. Titanic has since been released in 3D in 2012, the total gross of which was $658,672,302 in America. Merchandise released since the release of the movie include 'Titanic: Adventure Out of Time' a video game developed by Cyberflix, published in the United States and Europe by GTE Entertainment and Europress. The props from the film can be bought and collected as memorabilia.
